Why is this play significant?

The playwriting debut of Peter Tinniswood, a successful writer for stage, screen and - in particular - radio. The play was the breakout success of the season at Scarborough and phenomenally popular. So popular in fact, it was the first play by the company to have a sequel commissioned, At The End of the Day in 1983, which was considerably less successful.
