Why is this play significant?
The final play to be presented at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in the Round. Due to Alan Ayckbourn's commitment to the work on the new building the company was to move into, he surprisingly left the directing duties to Robin Herford, returning to the company for the first time since 1988. The production also featured the final performance of Associate Director Malcolm Hebden who had also appeared in the same role in the world premiere 20 years earlier! Malcolm decided to step down with the move to the company's new home to concentrate on other work including his well-known role of Norris Cole in the British soap opera Coronation Street.Notes
○ Just Between Ourselves was the final play to be produced at the Stephen Joseph Theatre In The Round before the company moved to its new home at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in 1996. The play was also the final production at the Library Theatre before the company moved to the Stephen Joseph Theatre In The Round in 1976.
○ This production marked the first return of Robin Herford to the Scarborough company since he had stepped down as Co-Artistic Director / Associate Director in 1988 following Alan Ayckbourn’s return from his two-year sabbatical at the National Theatre.
