Why is this play significant?

The first full-length play by the playwright Vanessa Brooks, who had several plays produced by the company during this period. Largely under the auspices of the Arts Council Dramatist in Residence. Vanessa would go on to notable success including the Artistic Director of Dark Horse theatre company and the founder of Separate Doors.

○ Penny Blue was the playwright Vanessa Brooks’s first full-length play and was commissioned by Alan Ayckbourn. Vanessa had previously debuted her one act play Take It To The Green Light, Barry at the theatre the previous year.
