Why is this play significant?
The full-length debut of Nick Warburton at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, who had previously written a number of short plays and would go on to success particularly as a writer for the radio. The play was advertised as the 100th work to premiere at the company's third home, the Stephen Joseph Theatre, but it later transpired Alan Ayckbourn's Awaking Beauty was actually the 100th play.Notes
○ Touch Wood was promoted as the 100th new play to be presented in the Stephen Joseph Theatre since the company moved to the venue in 1996. Subsequent research has seen that number revised and Alan Ayckbourn's Awaking Beauty was actually the 100th new production at the venue.
○ Touch Wood marked the full-length debut of Nick Warburton at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, who had previously had several one act plays premiered during as lunch-time production in The Restaurant in the venue.
