The acting debut of Barrie Rutter with the Scarborough company in an acclaimed adaption of King Lear by Ben Benison, making his writing debut with the Stephen Joseph Theatre.

Notes

Jack Lear was a loose adaptation of Shakespeare's King Lear transposed to a fishing community with the dialogue in verse.
The play was directed by and starred Barrie Rutter, making his debut with the Stephen Joseph Theatre company. At the time, he was the Artistic Director of the Northern Broadsides which frequently toured to the SJT.
